I am a reader that doesn’t just favor one genre. I read several different genres. When it comes to fall time – give me the cozy romance book filled with fall vibes AND the thrillers that keep me on edge while reading.
There are so many books that could fit these categories. There are many books that could fit more of the “spooky” vibe than these recommendations and I’ll need to add those to my TBR (to be read). In the meantime though, these are the books I would recommend to keep you busy this fall season!
Romance:
The Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore
This is Laurie’s first book in her ‘Dream Harbor’ series and honestly, you’ll want to stay in Dream Harbor long after the book is over. Lucky for you, she currently has six and a half books in this series so far.
This is a small town romance where this small town takes seasons very seriously. Because of that – you get fall vibes everywhere. The town completely decorated, the coffee drinks, the baked goods and a festival.
The Cinnamon Bun Book Store by Laurie Gilmore
Once you finish up the first book, you might as well continue onto book two in her ‘Dream Harbor’ series. This book is about two characters that are mentioned in the first book and you still get to see the characters from book one.
Love and Lattes at Pumpkin Hollow by Victoria Walters
This is another small town romance. I think any “fall vibes” romance book needs to include a small town. We probably all know at least one small town that is a “must visit” during the fall season near us. I’ve lived in two different states and both states we had that one town.
A bonus to “small town” for this book is that the FMC (female main character) lives on a farm and needs to try to save it. What better way to bring money in than to create a pumpkin patch. Add in lots of talk about pumpkin coffee and baked goods AND another town decorated to the nines for fall!
This book doesn’t have quite as much “fall vibes” as the other books, but enough that it’s worth the read during the season!
If you love a billionaire MMC (male main character) like I do, you’ll love this one. Don’t we all wish we could have a billionaire swoop in so we could quit our jobs and buy us anything we could ever want, but at the same time they are so generous with their money giving it back to small businesses.
Thrillers:
Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak
I haven’t read many books with paranormal activity because I usually don’t have a ton of interest in them. I’ve tried to look at another book with paranormal stuff in that is super popular in the book world, but I can’t get myself to read that one.
Hidden Pictures though was really good! It wasn’t too cheesy at all and the thrill was thrilling. This is the perfect thriller for “spooky” season combining paranormal and thrill.
The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
This book takes place during New Years time, but this “who done it” book is perfect for spooky season vibes. An isolated estate + the fire burning in the background + a dead body is the perfect combination for spooky season.
Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier
This is a type of thriller that I needed a pallet cleanser from, but in a good way. Plus, it would be perfect to read one of the above romance books after this one.
This book will make you think of a ‘Dateline’ story where a girl goes missing and later when her remains are found it is assumed to be connected to a serial killer.
A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham
A Flicker in the Dark is one of my all time favorite thriller books! This one is another serial killer vibes book.
The FMC’s father went to prison as the said serial killer, but then years later when the FMC is an adult the same pattern begins happening again. The twist in this book was twisting!!!!!
Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter
Honestly, any book by Karin Slaughter would be good during spooky season. Her books tend to be long and intense. But so good! Her longer books usually intimidate me, but they never let me down. Even though Pretty Girls was long – there was no slow burn in suspense.
If you like gruesome books – this is your spooky season book.
